Junior/Senior Seminar in Linguistics
Theory and methods of comparative linguistics. Diachronic and synchronic approaches to the study of comparative linguistics in phonology, morphology, morphophonemics, syntax, and lexical categories in the context of the world's languages. Both Indo-European and non-Indo-European languages included. Topics include theories of reconstruction, languages in contact, abductive processes, and questions of linguistic typology. Major research paper required. One course.
